Georgia Football: 5 potential captain candidates this spring
2. Terry Godwin
Terry Godwin is somehow a player that a lot of national media overlook when it comes to Georgia. He’s not the biggest or fastest receiver and he was overshadowed by Javon Wims in 2017. But the guy completely changed his attitude after a disappointing 2016 season and fully bought into the Kirby Smart program. The result was not only a productive season but a player that many look to as a natural leader.
Godwin is more explosive as a receiver than a lot of people realize. While he’s not quite Mecole Hardman, he remains incredibly dangerous whenever he gets his hands on the ball. You don’t score 6 touchdowns and average nearly 17 yards a catch without being one heck of a player. There is a good chance that he is UGA’s leading receiver in 2018.
But his leadership skills are just as important to this team. Based off everything coming out of camp last year, Godwin became just that last year. Having him back for one more season gives this team some continuity on that front. While they will lose some voices from that leadership group, Godwin will remain and ensure that the message is still getting through.
Georgia has some really talented young receivers. Hardman is only a year younger than Godwin but he’s still learning the position. JJ Holloman and Trey Blount both developed last season. Then Tommy Bush and Kearis Jackson both come in this cycle with real potential.
Godwin will be there this year to help guide all of those guys and mentor them. His presence is huge for our team and he’d be my favorite to be an offensive captain for the 2018 season.
