What can we expect in Athens?

I’m high on Davis and what he’s going to bring to Georgia during his time in Athens. While I think it’s going to take some time, I do think that he’s going to become someone we talk quite a bit about when it’s all said and done.

I became a big fan of Tray Scott’s work this past season. I really do think we saw all of our defensive linemen who were not injured take big steps forward in terms of technique. Scott’s obsessive focus on this part of the game is exactly what Davis needs to maximize his potential. If he starts using leverage and his hands correctly, the guy is going to be a wrecking ball.

He’s been compared by a lot of people to John Atkins. To me, they are very different players. Atkins was a huge man and could carry a lot of weight, but he’s different to Davis. He never had the height or the explosiveness that Davis has. Davis is a natural nose tackle in this current UGA system, but he can be more than just a run stuffer.

It’s going to be hard to run around a guy this good once he knows what he’s doing. But it’s going to be pretty damn impossible to stop him from getting to the passer as well without double teaming him. Considering some of the players UGA will have on their lines, that should give Davis the chance to push up front and get some sacks.

It’s not going to happen overnight and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Davis redshirt in 2018. But if there is one player who is getting ‘overlooked’ in this class right now, I’d say it’s him. Physically, the guy has got everything you want from a DT. I can’t wait to see him pull those pads on and push some linemen around when he gets to Athens.
