Georgia Football: Defensive linemen to watch this spring
Devonte Wyatt, DT, Sophomore
Speaking of players pushing Carter for playing time. If you want to look for one of those this spring, look no further than new boy Devonte Wyatt. Wyatt was originally a member of the 2017 signing class but had an issue with his grades coming in late. That meant that he spent this past season at Community College.
Wyatt worked hard and did what he needed to to get to UGA in December. He played a full season of football at Hutchinson C.C. which has likely helped him develop and get better. Now, he’s in Athens and looking to find a way into the defensive line rotation.
If you’re looking at tools, Wyatt is a really exciting player. Not only is he big and physical, but the guy might be even quicker than Clark by the time he’s finished in Athens. Wyatt played running back at times in high school and it’s been reported that he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. That’s insane for a 300lb guy.
That season of C.C. football should really help Wyatt. Unlike the two other 2018 class DT’s, he’s already in Athens and was able to train with the team throughout their postseason run. Wyatt has the potential to become a really good player for Georgia. He’s going to be a guy to watch for this spring game for sure.
