Robert Beal, OLB, Redshirt Freshman

It’s been a long time since we’ve had the chance to see Robert Beal play. After getting onto campus late, Beal never really had a chance to make an impact in his freshman season. With Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy starting, playing time was rare at OLB. Therefore, it wasn’t surprising that he took a year to get adjusted.

But right now, Beal is kind of a forgotten man. While UGA has some really talented OLB’s in the 2018 class, Beal was highly rated himself last year. He had a complicated senior season that saw him transfer high school twice and that affected his overall ranking. But there were some services that had him ranked as a 5-star player. From a talent standpoint, he’s that impressive.

If anyone is going to challenge Grant and Walker for the starting spots this spring, it’s Beal. He was a great pass rusher in high school and he has a year’s head start on these new freshmen. That time and familiarity with his coaches and the scheme should make a difference. Beal should have the inside track for the 2-deep.

It’s not going to be easy by any means, Beal is going to be going up against some really good players this season. He’s someone to watch this spring for sure. If he steps up and showcases that talent, he’ll make it hard for some summer arrivals to get on the field.
