William Poole, CB, Sophomore

Poole was one of the more under the radar players from the 2017 class. He didn’t have the lofty rankings of some of his peers and standing 6ft and 180lbs, he’s not quite the ideal size for Kirby Smart’s ideal on the outside.

But I think Poole is someone to really keep an eye on this spring. He made his way onto the field late in 5 games this past season and was higher on the depth chart than others. It’s going to be up to him to step up this spring and hold off some of these new challengers. Poole should be a player who sees increased playing time with the seniors departing.

While I don’t think he has that ideal size on the outside, Poole is a legitimate candidate to win time in the slot this offseason. He’s a tenacious player and a hard tackler. Poole and 2018 signee Chris Smith are similar players. Both are technically sound cornerbacks who will cause receivers a lot of issues.

If McGee is seeing time on the outside, look for Poole to make a real push for that star position. He’s good in run support and could do really well there. I fully expect him to find a way onto the two-deep during the spring. It will be fascinating to see him go up against some of the young receivers on G-day and see who comes out on top.
