Ameer Speed, CB, Sophomore

From a size perspective, no other player brings what Speed does to the CB position this spring. Standing at over 6ft2 and with very long arms, Speed has the potential to be the shutdown corner that Kirby Smart craves.

While he lacks the blazing speed of 2018 signee Tyson Campbell, it’s hard not to be excited about what Speed could produce on the outside. He has the length and physical ability to be a guy who can shut down taller receivers. That’s something that will be sorely needed in 2018.

Speed saw the field quite a bit in 2017. He probably got on the field more than any of the young DB’s other than Richard LeCounte. He earned that time and beat out some of the higher ranked players to get it. It’s why he’s someone to really look out for this spring.

Speed should have the inside track to the 2nd CB position. His size and length play really well on the other side from Deandre Baker. If he can take a step up in the offseason, he has a great chance to go up against other teams largest receiver.

It’s important for Speed that he takes and holds this job in the Spring. Tyson Campbell is one of the most exciting CB’s that UGA have signed in a very long time. He’s going to push for a job when he arrives this summer so Speed needs to get as much of a head start as he can.
