Mark Webb, CB, Sophomore

Webb is the cornerback that I am most excited to see this spring. Having joined UGA in 2017 as a wide receiver, Webb was pushed down that positional depth chart, especially after Mecole Hardman switched position.

But Kirby Smart kept saying that he wasn’t satisfied with the defensive backs. He just didn’t have the numbers there that made him feel comfortable. So he and the coaches asked Webb to switch to the defensive side of the ball. Webb took up the challenge, seeing it as a chance to help the team and potentially see the field.

Webb saw the field quite a bit in 2017 on special teams, but he was kind of a work in progress when it came to cornerback last season. That being said, all of the staff have raved about how he’s performed back there in practice. Webb has apparently really impressed all of the staff and they are very excited for what that means for him in 2018.

Webb is someone all fans should look out for this spring, particularly G-day. He has the size and physicality to win the second outside cornerback position. He’s certainly going to mount a heavy challenge to Ameer Speed for that job in camp. He’s another guy I can’t wait to see play on G-day. Webb was a really physical receiver in high school. I’m really looking forward to seeing him bring that same type of play to the defense.
