The Georgia Baseball team had a good weekend and continued their solid start to the season when they swept the Charlotte 49ers.

It’s been a better start to the season so far for the Georgia Baseball team. Head Coach Scott Stricklin came into this season knowing that he had to improve on another disappointing season last year. The good news for him and the fans is that his team has looked a lot better in 2018.

The Dawgs swept the Charlotte 49ers this weekend to move to 6-1 for the season. Their lone loss of the season came against Georgia Southern. The Dawgs still ended up taking that series 2-1. In short, the team looks to be playing really well to start this year. A lot of that is due to the improved performance of one of its seniors.

Keegan McGovern had three home runs in UGA’s 10-7 win on Saturday night. He hit only two home runs in the entire of the 2017 season, so his night was very much a welcome surprise for the Dawgs.

McGovern has been one of the best position players for UGA over the past few years. He was a co-captain for the 2017 season, but it was not a guarantee that he would return this year. However, his recent power surge is particularly exciting for UGA. McGovern has now hit 6 HRs in Georgia’s first 7 games, which has equaled his previous best during his sophomore year.

We’re still a long way from SEC play, but things are looking much better in 2018 then they did last year. This week the Dawgs take on Wofford and Georgia State before heading to South Carolina again for a three-game series against the College of Charleston. The Dawgs will be hoping their fast start to the season continues.
