Zamir White, Freshman

If White had not injured his knee in November, there is a good chance that he would be the most exciting player to watch this year in camp. Unfortunately, the nations number one running back in this years class tore his ACL and it looks like he will not return to training until fall.

While we are unlikely to get to see White play this spring, he’s worth looking out for. As an early enrollee, White is already on campus getting treatment from UGA’s staff. I’m sure that a lot of the local reporters will be doing reports on how his recovery is going.

To be honest, the story of White’s ACL tear is kind of crazy. Not only did he keep playing for the rest of the game, but he ended up driving down to Athens and spending the weekend there before telling his coach the following Monday that his knee was sore. That’s when they found out about the tear.

That story gives me hope that the tear itself was relatively minor. I hope we get to see and hear from him a bit this spring because White is a special talent at running back. On tape, he genuinely looks like Todd Gurley sometimes, that’s how unique of a player we’re talking about.

The man they call ‘Zeus’ is a quiet soul and Kirby Smart doesn’t let the media talk to freshmen. His talent and importance to the team in the long run, however, is why I’ll be looking out for him this spring. His first carry between the hedges can’t come soon enough for me.
