Brian Herrien, Junior

Herrien is one of two juniors who will be looking to fill the void left by Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. With the injury to White, Herrien and Elijah Holyfield will both have a chance this spring to win spots on the depth chart without the talented freshman competing with them.

That’s going to be important because once we get to summer camp, the competition is going to heat up. James Cook is another 5-star running back and when he arrives, he’s going to push for time. Herrien and Cook are similar in that they are both smaller, shiftier backs than the others on this list. They also both catch the ball really well out of the backfield.

Herrien and Holyfield will battle it out this spring for the number 2 running back spot. Herrien had the advantage in their freshmen season back in 2016. However last year, we saw Holyfield step up and into the ‘closer’ role on offense.

Watching these two go at it should be one of the most interesting parts of the spring. They play the game differently and there are only so many carries to go around. Herrien is a blue-collar kind of player who worked his butt off to get to UGA. He won’t be a pushover even for someone with as much power as Holyfield which should make this a great competition to watch.
