Georgia Football is going to be recruiting the best players in the country for the 2019 class. Dominick Blaylock is the second 5-star receiver that is committed to Athens for that cycle.

Continuing on from the series I’m writing about 2019 prospects, I didn’t want to ignore some of the kids that are already committed to Georgia Football in that cycle. Now we know that not all commitments stick in this day and age. It’s important that fans don’t start taking these guys for granted or consider them Dawgs no matter what. But I think there is a really good chance that most if not all of the current commits do end up in Athens.

Today we’re looking at the second 5-star wide receiver that is committed to Georgia, Dominick Blaylock. In the 2019 class, the state of Georgia has produced the number one and two ranked receivers in the entire country. Right now, both of those players are committed to UGA and neither looks like flipping. Blaylock doesn’t get the same hype that Jadon Haselwood does, but he’s the nations number 11 player right now. So yes, he’s a pretty special talent.

Looking at the tape:

From an offensive perspective, Blaylock has the best film I’ve seen all year. I’m serious, it’s incredible. It’s even better than Haselwood from a pure highlight perspective, it really is that good. Watching his 2017 season highlights, it’s crazy to think that this is a Junior in high school who was coming off a broken ankle. He looks like the total package.

Much like Haselwood, Blaylock is a crisp and smooth route runner. He’s got an explosive burst over the first 5 yards and he’s dangerous whenever he gets the ball in his hands. While he doesn’t have quite the same height and length of his fellow UGA commit, Blaylock is bigger than people think. According to a recent interview with Jeff Sentell, he’s actually closer to 6ft2 right now rather than the 6ft he’s listed at.

That growth spurt should change the long-term projections on Blaylock. Most scouts were projecting him as someone who was going to stay in the slot. But right now, it looks like he’s going to end up with the same sort of size as JJ Holloman. That means we’ll likely see him on the outside in some sets which is great. His versatility is going to be a huge advantage for UGA’s offensive gameplans.

One of the comps I’ve seen a lot for Blaylock is Terry Godwin. That makes a lot of sense because both of them play the game with such ease and are real technicians with their route running. Both are also lethal whenever they get the ball in their hands and make incredible catches. But if Blaylock does end up a bit bigger, he could be even better than Godwin on the outside. He’s got the ability and the intangibles to be a truly special player in Athens that’s for sure.

Will he stick with his commitment?

I said earlier, that no commitment is a certainty until they sign. That remains true because you just never know what could happen. However, if there is one player who is committed to Georgia right now, It’s Blaylock. Right now, it looks like he’s completely shut down his recruitment. He’s not going to take any visits, talk to other coaches, he’s done.

Blaylock is childhood friends with JD Bertrand and Ryan Goede, two other 2019 commits. They have been best friends for most of their lives despite the fact that they go to different high schools. These guys can’t wait to play college football together and it looks like they just love Georgia.

That’s great for UGA fans and it shows that all three of these guys are very mature for their age. Blaylock is very much like Terry Godwin in that regard. You can see that he’s is going to be a team leader when he gets to college. He might not be a ‘ra ra’ loud type of guy, but he’s going to be someone who others listen to when he speaks.

Blaylock is a special player who is going to make a name for himself at Georgia. He’s exactly what Kirby Smart is looking for from both a talent and an intangible perspective. He’s going to come in, work hard and win a job. Kids like this don’t come along very often and it’s going to be a lot of fun getting to watch him when he arrives in Athens.
