Cade Mays, True Freshman

Ah, Cade Mays. I raved about this guy back when I did my review of his play after he signed for Georgia. He remains one of the nastiest players I have ever seen play the game of football. Add that to his tremendous size and surprising athleticism and you have someone who is going to be a monster on the offensive line one day.

Mays enrolled early and that’s perfect for Georgia. His physical style of play makes him perfectly suited to the right side of the line. By getting here early, Mays is going to get a full 8 months to compete with Hayes and our next player. He’s going to be breathing down these guys necks and forcing them both to raise their level. His arrival is going to make everyone on the line better this year.

I don’t know if he’s going to win the job. The guy he is up against is even more of a physical freak than he is and has been in the program since the summer. But Mays is going to make it one heck of a battle and he should be really fun to watch this spring. Look for him to be the 2nd team RT on G-day. That should put him up against players like Robert Beal and Brenton Cox on the defense for the game.

Don’t be shocked if he brings that nasty attitude to G-day either. I know it’s just practice, but Mays strikes me as the kind of guy who is going to be mean whenever he puts the pads on. That in itself makes he someone to keep an eye out for.
