Georgia Football: Offensive Tackles to watch this spring
Isaiah Wilson, Redshirted Freshman
If Isaiah Wilson wasn’t on the team right now, Mays would probably come in and take this job. Unfortunately for Mays, Wilson is in Athens and after redshirting in 2017, he looks ready to step up and play this season.
Wilson is quite possibly the biggest human being UGA has signed in years. He arrived in the summer standing at 6ft7 and over 350lbs. He’s trimmed down on the weight which was a bit of an issue for him back then, but he’s still listed at 345lbs. That is a seriously large man.
He came into Georgia last season ranked as one of the top offensive tackles in the country. However, the Georgia heat and increase in competition caused Wilson some issues and he was never quite able to excel in camp. That’s why the redshirt was used and it seems to have done him a lot of good.
Seth Emerson from Dawgnation did a great interview with Wilson after the SEC Championship game. In it, he embraced the challenge that was laid in front of him because of that redshirt and talked about how he knew it was the best for him. Several coaches raved as the season went on just how good Wilson looked on the scout team.

2018 is going to be the year that Wilson gets to show the world just why he was the top-ranked player in UGA’s 2017 class. Remember that video on the first slide. Look at his face while he battles Cade Mays in a test of strength. That is the look of someone who has figured it out and looks ready. If I was another team in the SEC, that look would scare the heck out of me…
