Georgia Football: Offensive Guards to watch this spring
Trey Hill, Freshman
Hill is ranked as the second best guard in the nation for the 2018 class. The only player he is behind in Jamaree Salyer and it’s easy to see why when you put on the tape. He has tremendous strength and great size. His build, particularly his lower body means that he’s going to be a force once he gets his weight down and gets better technique.
Like a lot of high school guards, Hill does carry too much weight right now. He’s not the only one by the way. Salyer is similar in that regard as are a lot of players. That’s why being in an SEC training program early is great for Hill. It gives him a head start on the development that he needs to make.
I don’t expect Hill to push for playing time over other options this spring. He’s very raw and he needs time to adjust, but I expect to see him push others. From a pure talent perspective, he’s one of the top guys on the interior in Athens right now.
It will be interesting to see how Hill compares to Warren Ericson, who also enrolled early. Ericson was a lower rated prospect and many view him as a center. I could see him end up the backup to Gaillard this spring. Ericson is a tough player who is surprisingly athletic. He recently did a full splits in an interview which for a man his size is pretty ridiculous. He could end up surprising this spring.
