Solomon Kindley, Redshirt Sophomore

If there is one player who has the combination of size and experience to step in and win the second guard job, it’s Kindley. He won the right guard job in the Samford game and held that spot for much of the season. Unfortunately for him, he was one of several linemen who played poorly in the loss to Auburn. Kirby Smart decided to shake things up and play Ben Cleveland after that and he cemented himself in that spot for the rest of the season.

I expect Kindley to keep pushing Cleveland. Both are big bodied guys who are monsters in the running game. However, as much as I like Kindley, I just think Cleveland is a special player. If he can continue to improve his technique this year, I think he’s going to become a dominant guard.

Baker looks a little more vulnerable at left guard. Kindley has the bulk and the nastiness to step in and win that job. It won’t be easy and he’ll be going up against a player who has worked hard to win it. He’s also going to have to take on a couple of young bucks as well.

To win the LG spot, Kindley is going to have to improve his pass protection. He can sometimes be a bit slow and that’s going to have to change to win this spot. While I don’t think I’d classify him as the favorite, I do think that he’s got a great chance this spring. Where he starts on G-day will be very telling in regards to where he sits in the pecking order.
