Georgia Football: Three Toughest Games in 2018
2. October 13th at LSU
Georgia will travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU in mid-October as these two teams meet for the first time since Georgia’s thrilling 44-41 win over the Tigers in Athens back in 2013. LSU again will be led by Ed Orgeron as the Tigers look to be competitive in a tough SEC West division.
Again, much of the toughness surrounding this game for Georgia will be the environment. An argument can be made that Death Valley is the toughest place to play in college football, especially at night. Georgia should expect a loud, hostile crowd that will do its part to make it difficult for Jake Fromm and Justin Fields to call the offensive plays.
LSU, like Georgia, did lose a number of players from its 2017 roster to the NFL draft. Georgia appears to be in a good position to have new players step up to replace that production that was lost to the NFL.
I think depth will be a huge advantage for Georgia in this game. I expect the Dawgs to run the ball a lot in this game to control the tempo and quiet the crowd by having long, sustainable drives. Look for D’Andre Swift to shine in this game.
Again, I would predict Georgia to win this game. But it would be unwise to underestimate the home-field advantage that has given LSU an edge over countless numbers of teams during the last decade or so. Chaotic environments can cause a team to make mistakes (see Georgia at Auburn circa 2017).
Georgia will travel to LSU after playing Vanderbilt at home so expect the Dawgs to be well-rested and focused heading into Death Valley. This game should be an exciting one.
