Several former Georgia Football favourites showed off their skills at the NFL’s annual Combine event in Indianapolis this past weekend.
It was a good NFL Combine for the Georgia Football team. Gone are the demons of 2017 when UGA only sent 1 player to Indianapolis. This year, they sent 10 and some of them absolutely lit it up. So let’s take a quick look at some of the storylines that Georgia brought to the Combine and which players solidified their draft rankings.
Dominick Sanders was the last UGA player to workout on Monday. The only drill that he did was the bench press. It looks like he is going to save most of the other workouts until UGA’s pro day in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, he’s able to show out there. He remains a [ropsect on the bubble for me. I believe he can get drafted, but he has to impress NFL scouts a bit more first.
Two truly great running backs:
I’m not one of those people who thought Nick Chubb and Sony Michel needed to do drills this week. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that they did and I expected them to. But any Georgia fan can tell you that these two didn’t need to prove anything this week. They have all the tape they need to show NFL teams just how good they both are.
Of course, they both showed out. Michel put up very similar numbers to Alvin Kamara last season and that makes sense. NFL analyst Mike Mayock thinks that Kamara is a great comp for Michel and I agree. While Michel hasn’t caught the ball as much as Kamara, that’s something I really believe he can do. His performance this week likely secured him as a 2nd round pick and I firmly believe he’s going to make some NFL team very happy.
Chubb, on the other hand, did a lot more drills than Michel. He also went out there and impressed in every single one he did. He placed in the top 9 of every drill he did and was in the top two on both the broad jump and the bench press. Chubb also ran his 40-yard dash slightly faster than Michel, which also showed that he’s more complete than a lot of people thought.
Both backs showed that they should be considered an every-down player for NFL teams. While they have shared the load and been used in different ways in Athens, both are more than capable of stepping up and becoming a franchise running back. I think both could come off the board in the second round.
