Georgia Football: Former Dawgs crush the NFL Combine
Javon Wims made some money:
Ever since the App State game, I thought that Javon Wims could find a way to get drafted. To be honest, if you told me at G-day last year that was going to happen, I would have thought that you were crazy. But the guy took a big step up in his play this year and he earned his chance to be at the Combine.
Interestingly, he showed a couple of different things to the scouts that were there. Firstly, he measured in at less than 6ft3 tall. Wims was registered on the UGA website as 6ft4 and he was such a physical player for Georgia in 2017. I was surprised to see that he is actually a little shorter than we were told.
That wouldn’t upset me if I was a scout. Wims looked like he was 6ft4 out there on the tape when he dominated cornerbacks. That tells me that he’s a player who can physically overpower others. Then you have the speed. Wims ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash. That’s a pretty good speed for a guy who is really a jump ball receiver. It’s a good deal quicker than I thought he would run and it shows that he’s actually more athletic than I gave him credit for.
I still think that Wims is going to be a day 3 pick. However, this performance makes me think that he will go in the 4th or 5th round rather than the 6th or 7th. He has legit size and speed, of that there is absolutely no doubt after this. Add in his fantastic catching ability and I think he’s going to be on an NFL roster for quite some time.
