Georgia Football: Former Dawgs crush the NFL Combine
Injuries hamper linebackers:
While Sunday was in many ways the highlight for Georgia players, there was some disappointment. Both Roquan Smith and Davin Bellamy ended up having to miss most of if not all of the drills after experiencing minor injuries. They were not the only ones as a lot of linebackers ended up tweaking muscles and pulling out.
Smith ran his first 40-yard dash and blazed a 4.51. He looked incredibly smooth and fast, but unfortunately, he tweaked a hamstring and therefore, decided not to do any more drills. In fairness, that shouldn’t matter for Smith. He remains on track to be a top 15 pick and that one run solidified just how deserving he is off that hype.
Things are a bit different for Bellamy. For me, he is very much a prospect who could get drafted or could not. If a team decides that his length and intangibles are interesting, then I could see him going int the 6th or 7th round. If not, he will likely be an undrafted free agent who will end up in a training camp somewhere.
Bellamy only did the bench press this weekend. He had a hamstring injury before he arrived in Indy and wanted to wait until UGA’s pro day to do his measurables. That’s totally fine, it would hurt his draft stock to do drills and do them badly. But that March 21st pro day is going to be huge for him now. If he can prove that he’s a physical specimen, then I think he gets taken at some point in Dallas. I’d love to see that happen for a player who was a DGD the last few years.
