Georgia Football: Wide Receivers to watch this spring
Matt Landers, Redshirt Freshman
Speaking of unique things, you don’t get much more unique than Matt Landers. If the UGA roster is to be believed (and it wasn’t for Javon Wims), Landers is 6ft5. Now I have no reason to doubt that height number. That’s because lots of reports have come out of Athens that Landers really is that tall and that he’s a cornerbacks nightmare.
Landers redshirted in 2017 and that isn’t surprising. He was probably the rawest player in the entire 2017 signing class and he needed time to get better. But you cannot teach size and there’s no doubt that Landers possesses it.
He impressed a great deal on the scout team. Landers has generated a lot of buzz amount the reporting community since the offseason started. The reports all say the same thing. This is a guy who really surprised the coaching staff in practice. He caused the defense a lot of problems during those sessions and really worked over some of the older cornerbacks.
I don’t know if he’s going to come in and take a starter’s role straight away. He remains raw and there are some really talented guys later on in this list. But I can absolutely see Landers having a role on the team in 2018, particularly in the red zone. We all know how much Fromm loves those back shoulder throws and Landers gives him a huge window for them with his length. If he has good body control, the guy could be a real weapon.
