Trey Blount, Sophomore

One guy, almost nobody seems to talk about when it comes to the receiver position is Trey Blount. While he doesn’t have the hype of his former Pace Acadamy teammates Andrew Thomas and Jamaree Salyer, the guy clearly impressed the coaching staff.

Blount saw more time on the field than any other freshman receiver in 2017. He played in 14 games and actually got the start in the SEC championship game. He did not have a catch last season, but he earned his time on the field. Blount showed himself to be one of the best blockers of the entire wide receiver unit. Pretty impressive for a freshman.

We know how Kirby Smart feels about his receivers blocking. It’s something he demands from the position because it helps the running game. Javon Wims made his move up the depth chart because he blocked. Blount’s efforts in 2017 mean we could see the same this year.

I don’t expect him to suddenly become a starter, but I do think Blount will start to get some targets this year. He’s no slouch with the ball in his hands and I fully expect his hard work to be rewarded. If he ends up on the second team unit on G-day, I could see him seeing quite a few targets from Justin Fields.
