After a difficult 207/18 season, Georgia Basketball has decided to part ways with head coach Mark Fox.
In a move that will surprise few, Georgia Basketball has decided to move on from Mark Fox. Fox had been the head coach in Athens for the past 9 seasons. While putting together respectable teams, UGA only made the NCAA tournament twice.
Last year, UGA had two All-SEC starters in Yante Maten and J.J. Fraizer but the team failed to impress. They were bounced out of the SEC Tournament and the NIT in the first round. It was a disappointing end to a season where a great deal was expected.
This year, Maten returned for his final season and was named for the SEC player of the year by the AP. Unfortunately, the rest of the team struggled and Georgia has been out of the running for a tournament berth for more than a month.
Fox went 163-133 during his time in Athens and brought a level of consistent respectability to UGA. Despite this, he struggled to have a breakthrough season at any point during his time in Athens. His teams lost in the first round in each of the NCAA Tournament seasons. He also only won two games in all of his postseason appearances.
Fox came to Georgia from Nevada where he was a 3-time WAC coach of the year. After doing a solid job during his time on both jobs, he is unlikely to be out of work for too long. He was never implicated in any scandal during his time at UGA. That and his record should likely mean he’s back on the sidelines sooner rather than later.

Georgia will look at several candidates to replace Fox. They will hope that their in-state talent base helps them sign a high-quality coach who can take the program to the next level.
