Tom Crean

Crean might well be the dream hire for Georgia fans. He has had success at two programs so far both in their conference and in the postseason. There is no doubt that if he were to come to Georgia, he would be the most successful basketball coach they have hired in a very long time.

He started his head coaching career at Marquette. There, he built a really strong program and would take them to the Final Four in 2003. That team was led by Dwayne Wade who Crean had recruited in from Chicago. He put up a .664 winning record at the school before leaving for Indiana. There he would rejuvenate a proud program that was devastated by recruiting violations.

He turned the Hoosiers around and would take them to the Tournament 3 times in his final 6 years. On each trip, his side would lose in the Sweet Sixteen. He also greatly built up the talent base for Indiana, signing lottery picks Cody Zeller, Victor Oladipo and Noah Vonleh.

Crean has a reputation for getting his teams to play exciting basketball. He likes to play aggressive offense and defense and loves fast breaks. He’d be a huge change from Fox and that front and he’s also a great recruiter.

Crean is going to be right at the top of a lot of teams list’s this year. UGA will not be the only ones who offer him the chance to head up their program. This is the kind of hire that could really build on the culture that Fox has left and inject some real excitement into the program. It would be an absolute home run hire that would change how most fans view McGarity.
