Georgia Football: Takeaways from first week of Spring Practice
Wide receivers battling it out for time:
Having two great QB’s out there seems to be working out well for the receivers. Several of the younger players are continuing to make an impression while the starters are not going to give up playing time easily.
Terry Godwin continues to be one of the most consistent players on Georgia’s team. He’s been a quiet but solid leader for this team since last year and that seems to be continuing. Reporters have all said that he is doing a good job of helping other players. Riley Ridley is also making a move to keep that starting spot he won back in the national championship game. Right now, that’s a role that he’s holding onto.
But other players are pushing. JJ Holloman is a rare athlete and he has the ability to be special. He looked great in the spring last year before getting some injuries in the fall that held him back. Right now, he’s fully healthy and he’s impressing. Matt Landers is also much more fluid than you would expect for a 6ft5 player. There’s a good chance we see him in red zone situations this season.
Lastly, there is Mecole Hardman who continues to get more comfortable with the position. His explosiveness remains on a different level from every other player. When you consider the type of athletes he’s going up against, that tells you how special he is. I really think he’s going to ball out in 2018.
