Former Georgia Football star Bacarri Rambo is back with the team, this time in an off-field capacity as he starts his coaching career.

A Former Georgia Football great is returning to Athens. Bacarri Rambo, who holds the record for most interceptions at UGA alongside Dominick Sanders is rejoining the Georgia program. Kirby Smart told the press that Rambo is currently an intern in Athens. The plan is to help him become a graduate assistant when the time is right.

Rambo was one of the most productive safeties ever at UGA. As well as bringing in 16 interceptions, he accounted for 235 tackles and scored three touchdowns on interceptions. He then went on to be a 6th round pick and play in the NFL for five seasons.

Rambo never quite worked out with the Washington Redskins who drafted him. But he put together a couple of productive seasons with the Bills and the Dolphins before his career was over. While he didn’t have the measurables some would like, Rambo was a tough and smart player who made an impact at UGA. He maximized his potential and his time in the NFL showed that. Rambo put his body on the line several time for his team over the years. He’s a great example of what a great team player looks like.

He’s going to be a great addition to this staff. He’ll compliment Mel Tucker and Kirby Smart really well because he can relate to the secondary players in a way that they can’t. He became one of the most recognizable players for UGA during his time in Athens and he’ll have a lot to offer the young guys.

As he’s not a coach, Rambo will not be working with the team on the field or a hands-on basis. But there’s a lot he can do to help them off the field, whether it’s breaking down film or explaining techniques and coverages. It’s a solid hire by Smart and as always, it’s great to have a DGD back in the house.
