Georgia baseball swept South Carolina this past weekend to win their second SEC series, their sixth-straight game, and fifth-straight game in the SEC.

While a lot of Dawg fans have been focused on the hiring of new head basketball coach Tom Crean and football spring practice getting started, the Georgia baseball team has quietly been having a pretty good season.

They are 18-6 so far this season. Considering the wins they’ve had, this is a pretty good sign that Scott Striklin’s 2018 team is coming together and is much more competitive than the 2016 and 2017 teams, both of which finished with losing records. It looks like Georgia baseball may be back finally.

The current win streak for the Diamond Dawgs sits at 6. This includes winning two out of three against Alabama. This past weekend, the Dawgs completed an extremely impressive sweep of the 2010 and 2011 national champions South Carolina. The Dawgs have won 11 out of their past 12 games on this impressive hot streak they are currently on.

One of the main reasons for the recent success of this team has been the play of junior Keegan McGovern. If you don’t know this kid yet, you will soon. He’s one of the best players in the conference and he’s been white hot lately.

McGovern is second in home runs in the SEC with 10 and in RBIs with 29. He leads the conference in runs scored with 33. This is a guy that you can watch play for Georgia right now who is a future major leaguer.

The Diamond Dawgs will look to build on this recent success in the upcoming weeks. They play Charleston Southern on Tuesday at 6. They now have a 5-1 SEC record and can improve on that as Texas A&M come to town for a three game series at Foley Field starting this Thursday.
