Georgia Football: What leaders are emerging this Spring
Jake Fromm QB:
All of the reports coming out of camp however have been glowing when it comes to Fromm. He’s come into the offseason with a new challenge breathing down his back. Justin Fields is one of the most talented QB’s to come to UGA in a very long time. There isn’t a great deal he can’t do and he’s not planning on just sitting behind Fromm and holding a clipboard for 2 years.
But all reports have said that Fromm is rising to that challenge. He’s looking sharp in practice and has displayed improved arm strength from a year ago. This is the time of year where someone like Fromm can excel. He’s always been a film and gym rat and so now, he has time to go back and look at last year, he can see how he can improve.
Despite all of that improvement, Fromm made this list for another reason. Everything I have heard suggests that he has already been a good mentor and friend to Fields and for that, he deserves some recognition. During practice, Fields is turning to Fromm after most reps and getting feedback. If he does something wrong, Fromm is stepping in and explaining to him why. They’ve built a good rapport together and Fromm is offering a lot of support to the new guy.
That’s not the easiest thing to for to someone really talented and trying to take your job. It’s a sign of Fromm being a team player as well as a pretty great person. More importantly, however, it’s the sign of a leader.
