2018 Georgia Football NFL Draft Prospect: LB Roquan Smith
Dawn of the Dawg Draft prediction:
I personally think that Smith ends up going somewhere in the top 14 picks. There are two spots that really stand out to me as ideal fits should Smith be there for them. The first of these is the Raiders who are desperately trying to change the culture of the program now that John Gruden is in town.
Their defense was frankly horrible last season and they need someone to come in and not only improve the level of play but be a leader and help the team to do the right thing. The Raiders do have the 10th pick overall and so Smith should still be on the board for them.
The other team that I think would be a perfect fit is the Green Bay Packers. It seems like they have been missing an ILB for the last 3 seasons. They keep having to move Clay Matthews inside half the time because he’s the only guy that can play there. Smith would completely change that. His speed and instincts would be a great fit with their 3-4 defense and he would fit in great in a locker room that is pretty no-nonsense and just likes to grind.
Next: Could a receiver be the next starting CB?
You never know what’s going to happen on the first day of the draft. Sometimes players get their name called by teams you would never expect. Could the 49ers draft Smith, sure, I don’t think they should, but they could pick him. You just never know. But if I was a betting man, I’d put my money on those two teams, the Raiders , nd the Packers. Both would be great homes for one of Georgia’s greatest ever defenders.
