2018 Georgia Football NFL Draft Prospect: RB Sony Michel
Could he be better in the pros?
Michel has found himself being compared to Alvin Kamara this year. Kamara was a 3rd round draft pick who won the rookie of the year award. He accounted for over 1500 yards of offense and 13 TD’s as the team used him in a variety of different ways.
From a physical perspective, I can see the comparison. Both are smooth runners who move really well in space. Michel tested almost exactly the same as Kamara and there’s no doubt that he can do a lot of the same things.
Playing at Georgia, Michel was never asked to catch the ball much out of the backfield. It’s something that he clearly can do and he did well when given the chance. He is also a much better pass blocker than most fans realize. That gives him a great opportunity to be on the field a lot, from 1st to 3rd down.
Wherever Michel ends up, he’s unlikely to have a running back like Nick Chubb with him. This means that for the first time since high school he has the chance to be a franchise back. He can finally be THE guy. Michel meant so much to UGA and he really was the complete player this past season. However, if he lands in the right spot, there’s a great chance that he’ll be even better at the next level than he was in Athens. He’s got the potential to be a star in the league.
