Former Georgia Bulldog Goldberg Inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

Former Georgia Bulldog Bill Goldberg is going to be recognized for his contribution to professional wrestling with a place in the WWE Hall of Fame.
Many in Georgia will be watching everything that happens in Augusta National today. The Masters remains one of the biggest events in every sporting calendar. However, many others have their attention fixed on New Orleans this weekend. They are getting ready to see professional wrestling’s version of the Super Bowl, Wrestlemania 34. It is a week-long event that culminates Sunday night with the mega event. Every year on the same weekend as the big event, WWE holds a Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year’s class is headlined by a former Georgia Bulldog, the great Bill Goldberg.
Goldberg played for the Dawgs from 1986-1989. He was a 2-time All-SEC defensive lineman. He was a tackling machine for Georgia, racking up 348 during his time there. That put him at 9th on the all-time list for total tackles at UGA. The Oklahoman chose UGA over a lot of other power programs including the Sooners. Athens itself was at least partially responsible for Goldberg’s decision to come play for the University of Georgia. On one particular recruiting trip, Goldberg has said that being handed a bottle of Wild Turkey while standing on a bar on a night out in the greatest college town in America helped him to make his decision. He went on to play in the NFL for a few years with the Atlanta Falcons.
He is of course, however, most well known for his time as one of the top draws in the World in professional wrestling during the late 90s. His streak of 173 straight wins combined with his cyborg-like character made him an international superstar. He made a return to the ring in 2016 that included a reign as the WWE Universal Champion and the main event match against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 33.
