There are young guys that could step up:

One position that I’m not worried about at all is the defensive end. If Ledbetter needs a breather, UGA currently has a couple of really good options to come in. David Marshall has looked impressive in his first two years. He’s done a good job of rushing the passer and has impressed even though he’s had limited reps.

Malik Herring could end up being even better. He slashed serious potential last year and I think he’s going to be a guy that we see a lot of in 2018. I don’t just think we’ll see him spelling for Led. I can see Kirby and Mel Tucker building some packages where both of them end up on the field at the same time on passing downs. He’ll be a nightmare for offensive linemen.

The issue is that Georgia doesn’t have enough big guys who weigh over 300lbs on the DL. Herring and Marshall could both have good seasons, but UGA needs more help from some of its other players. DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle is a guy that Georgia needs to step up. He had his moments in 2016 but fell away last year. He did have a big field goal block in the SEC Championship game, however. As a senior, this is his last shot to make an impact in college. He has the size and talent to do just that.

Michail Carter is another name to watch. He was more highly ranked than Tyler Clark coming into the program and he has plenty of talent. With Thompson gone, he has an opportunity this spring to move up and become a serious part of this rotation.
