Georgia Football: Should fans worry about the defensive line?
The offensive line is no joke:
One of the reasons the defensive line is having a hard time right now is probably because they are going up against their own offensive line. A lot of people have forgotten just how good this unit was last year. They ended up being one of the best line units in all of football and they have only lost one player in Isaiah Wynn.
As good as Wynn was (and he was pretty great), there is so much talent right now in that unit. Andrew Thomas has moved to left tackle and has apparently already made the spot his own. Ben Cleveland is a monster and continues to get better. Isaiah Wilson and Cade Mays are both big and nasty player battling for the right tackle spot.
Unlike last year, Georgia doesn’t have a weakness at OL. In fact, the position group is one of their greatest strengths. They have guys like Trey Hill and Netori Johnson battling just to be on the 2nd unit. This might well be the biggest challenge our DL faces all season and it’s only going to make them better.
What’s even crazier is that it’s only going to get better. Jamaree Salyer might be the best guard prospect in more than a decade and he arrives this summer. Kirby Smart has always been a big believer that having guys compete everyday makes them better. Our DL is going to have to do just that to make it through practices. Our offensive line really is that good.
