There’s help coming this summer:

Last but not least, the 2018 class has not fully arrived yet. While Devonte Wyatt arrived early from JUCO, UGA also has two more DT prospects coming in. Jordan Davis is the one that could end up seeing playing time early. He’s a mammoth human being at over 6ft6 and 330lbs. While he will likely need to lose a bit of weight, it’s hard to find people his size. I could see him rotating in at certain times just to stuff the middle.

Tramel Walthour will likely need a bit more time. He’s kind of a tweener between a DE and a DT and I think Georgia will want to use him as a DT. I, therefore, expect him to need to put on a bit of weight in the S&C program before seeing the field. But it’s not inconceivable that he comes in and can do that straight away.

Georgia also lost Michael Barnett for the Spring to an injury. He’s someone we haven’t heard much from but apparently, he was impressing. He’s another depth piece that could see the field if the freshmen need some time.

In short, don’t worry. Be happy.

Look I’m not saying Kirby Smart shouldn’t be pushing his guys hard. There is clearly going to be a lot of pressure put on our defense this year. They’ve lost a lot of leaders and Roquan Smith who seemed to make a lot of mistakes just go away. But the Dawg’s are not in as bad shape in the DL as some reporters are suggesting.

Even if they have a poor G-day, there is still a long way to go until the season starts. With 3 legit NFL prospects starting on the line, things could be a lot worse. Yes, the depth is young and unproven, but so were guys like Clark last year. Tray Scott did a great job coaching up this unit in 2017 and I fully expect similar results when we get to September.
