How good has his offseason been?

Carter has had a pretty fantastic offseason. Most UGA fans who have seen him play know just how physically gifted he is. It’s therefore unsurprising to see him thrive in all of the athletic tests that the draft build up centers around.

Like several other UGA prospects, Carter chose not to attend the senior bowl. Some might criticize that decision but it’s worth remembering that UGA did play in the National Championship game. The Senior Bowl was less than 3 weeks after the biggest game of Carter’s career. He deserved a chance to recover from everything that heartbreaking loss meant.

At the NFL Combine, Carter showed out. He ran a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash and was actually faster than both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. He also put together an explosive broad and verticle jump performance together and showed just how special he could be.

Carter’s decision to return to school was a good one. After a junior year, he likely would have been picked in the later rounds purely based on potential. However, after a year where he showed a great deal of improvement and versatility, NFL coaches can now get a better idea of how to use him at the next level.
