Georgia Football: Biggest Stories from Spring so far
But the LB unit is looking really strong:
While I understand the concerns with the other units on the defense, one area I am not worried about is the linebackers. While the unit might be losing 3 very accomplished starters, they have a lot of talented players among the group, several of whom I think could be really good this year.
D’Andre Walker is a player that I am very excited about for this season. 2018 will be his senior season and he’s been a project for most of his time in Athens. He’s continued to get better and really started to impress as last year wore on. His pass rushing became increasingly valuable and he did a great job in the post season. He had a sack in both games against Auburn and brought a tonne of pressure in the Rose Bowl.
Natrez Patrick seems to have gotten his life sorted. If that remains the case and he can stay away from the off the field issues, 2018 should be a huge year from him. Patrick has the talent to be a relatively high draft pick and pick up some of the slack from Roquan leaving. It’s just a case of can he stay out of trouble.
Then there is a lot of young talent fighting for time. Walter Grant has been filling the Lorenzo Carter role quite a lot in practice and is really versatile. Robert Beal is coming along and is a natural pass rusher. Brenton Cox looks like a legit prospect who could make an impact this season. This might well be the strength of UGA’s defense in 2018 much like it was last year.
