When Georgia Football takes the field on Saturday for G-day, there are going to be some offensive players that fans will want to keep an eye on.
Well it’s about that time. The Georgia Football spring practices come to a head on Saturday with the annual spring scrimmage G-day. It’s always an exciting day for UGA fans who finally get to return to Sanford Stadium. This year, Georgia is going to be a much younger football team. With a lot of talented seniors heading to the NFL, there are lots of positions up for grabs on both sides of the ball.
With all this talent, fans will have plenty of players to keep an eye on. Here are some of the offensive players most UGA fans should be looking out for on Saturday. There is plenty of talent on a unit that really could take a big step forward in 2018.
Jake Fromm QB
Perhaps there is no position that could see a bigger jump than QB. That’s not because Jake Fromm was bad in 2017. He was, in fact, great for a true freshman who was thrown into the fire after an injury. But with 15 games under his belt and a full offseason, look for him to be even better in 2018.
Fromm is a player whose main strengths lie between his ears. He’s a highly intelligent and cerebral player. He looks great in practices so far and many observers think he’s already taken a big step up from January.
Last year, Fromm had great chemistry with Javon Wims so G-day could show us which receivers he’s starting to trust more. It could also be the chance for him to get the ball to Issac Nauta a lot more. Fromm still has a lot of room for growth and can become one of the best QB’s in the nation this year. G-day is an important opportunity for him to show that growth.
Justin Fields QB
The main reason that Fromm needs to grow is this guy. Fields comes into UGA as one of the most hyped and talented prospects the University has ever seen. Most coaches who have worked with this guy see him as a truly transcendent talent.
A player who has an electric arm as well as incredible athletic ability, Fields has it all. He’s not just physically gifted, but he also has most of the same intangibles that Fromm has. In short, he’s a special talent and someone who could really take UGA to the next level.
But to do that, he’s going to have to beat out an entrenched and talented starter in Fromm. That isn’t going to be easy and Fields still has a long way to go. But we all remember how good Fromm looked himself this time last year, could Fields be the same?
G-day will be the first time Georgia fans have seen Fields since his final high school appearance. A live scrimmage will give him the opportunity to actually display his athleticism, unlike most practices. A chance to see Fromm lead one team against Fields on another is going to be special for Georgia fans. It’s one of the biggest reasons to be in Athens this Saturday.
