When it comes to running backs, Georgia is losing some legends. With Sony Michel and Nick Chubb going to the NFL, there is little doubt that it’s going to need some players to step up and take the reps.

D’Andre Swift is the guy most likely to win the starters job. He looked the part last year and has the talent to be special. However, Swift is battling a groin injury and might not play at all on Saturday. One team will likely start Holyfield with the other relies on Brian Herrien.

These two will be battling it out for playing time this season. With two highly talented freshmen in Zamir White and James Cook arriving, the time to impress for these guys in now.

Elijah Holyfield RB

Holyfield flashed his potential last season. He earned the role of UGA’s closer and came in and ran the ball in impressive fashion when the match had been put away.

This year, he’ll be looking to get some more meaningful carries. He has always been a big guy and he possesses more explosiveness than a lot of people think. Saturday is an opportunity for him to take hold of the number 2 job behind Swift and hold that spot until summer camp. I fully expect him to open some eyes and impress.

Brian Herrien RB

Herrien is a different type of player to Holyfield. He doesn’t have the size and raw power of his competition, but Herrien is tougher than he looks. A lot of fans think that his size means that he should be used as a 3rd down back, but Herrien can run between the tackles, It’s just that he does tend to do better as a ‘slasher’.

Look for Herrien to be the top RB with the 2nd team. That 2nd unit is still going to have a legit offensive line and he could really surprise. The 2nd team defense is a work in progress and the 2nd offensive unit is going to be stacked. Don’t be shocked if Herrien ends the scrimmage with eye-popping numbers.
