Issac Nauta TE

2018 is a really important year for Nauta. Having looked really impressive in his freshman year, he took a step back in 2017 in terms of production. He only caught 9 passes last year and that’s just not enough for a guy with his sort of talent. Nauta was a consensus 5-star tight end coming out of high school and those guys don’t come along very often.

In his defense, he lost his quarterback. Nauta was very close to Jacob Eason and was his go-to guy in their freshman season. He didn’t have that same connection with Jake Fromm and so a lot of the time when Fromm was in trouble, he threw the ball elsewhere.

Every report I have read suggests that Nauta is looking really good this spring. He’s stepping up and becoming a leader and he’s responding really well to having Jim Chaney coach him now. Chaney coaches his guys hard and seems to be a lot more intense than Shane Beamer was. Nauta is responding and doing really well. Saturday will be a great chance to see if he and Fromm are getting closer to being on the same page. If they are, he could be an incredible weapon for 2018.

Jeremiah Holloman WR

Holloman is one of the receivers who hopes to see the field with Wims gone. He’s a bigger body, much like Riley Ridley, but he’s a more explosive player. From a talent perspective, he’s pretty special. He’s got the size, the speed and the explosiveness to make players form just about anywhere.

He was a star last year at G-day, accounting for 77 yards and a TD on 3 catches. Back then it looked like he could find his way onto the field in his freshman year. Some nagging injuries and great play from others stopped that from happening. He’ll be a starting receiver for the second unit again and he has a chance to move up the depth chart. I’m expecting him to end up flashing and be the go-to guy for Justin Fields on Saturday.
