When Georgia Football takes the field on Saturday for G-day, there are going to be some offensive players that fans will want to keep an eye on.

Well, it’s about that time. The Georgia Football spring practices come to a head on Saturday with the annual spring scrimmage G-day. It’s always an exciting day for UGA fans who finally get to return to Sanford Stadium. This year, Georgia is going to be a much younger football team. With a lot of talented seniors heading to the NFL, there are lots of positions up for grabs on both sides of the ball.

Yesterday we looked at the offensive players. Today we’re going to be looking at a side of the field that is going to need to replace a lot of senior leadership, the defense. A lot of the players we’re going to be looking at today will be pushing for starting jobs.

Brenton Cox OLB

Lets get right into starting with a freshman shall we? Brenton Cox is one of the new players that is turning some heads this spring. The guy came in and physically he already looks like he’s ready to go. It’s rare to see an 18 year old that looks like a senior in college, but that’s Cox.

There have been times where he has rotated in with the ones this camp. I expect him to be on the second unit and going up against the young offensive line. He’s someone to keep an eye out for because game time is where he truly thrives. Back at the UA All American Game, Cox shone. He had moments during practice, but when it was game time, he was lights out. Cox ended up having 2 sacks and was an absolute terror. I can’t wait to see him going up against the like of Cade Mays.

Malik Herring DE

Speaking of 2nd team pass rushers, Herring is someone I am very excited for in 2018. He rotated in and out on the defensive line in his freshman season. But this is the year that I expect we really start to see him blossom into a force.

It will be interesting to see where he plays and how the coaches use him. He’s a natural defensive end, but he can generate inside pass rush when necessary and be a real pain for guards. Herring has all the tools to be a potential star on the defensive line when his time comes. This game represents a real chance for him to show how far he’s come since last year.
