Tyrique McGee CB

With Mark Webb likely missing the game due to injury, the question is where will McGee play. Will he be on the outside or will he end up holding down the Star position? Because he’s on the shorter side, you would expect him to play in the slot, but UGA might well need him to cover on the outside on Saturday.

Right now, I see McGee is a similar role to Aaron Davis during his time in Athens. He’s a decent cover guy who often gets moved around depending on the matchups. While he’s never going to be a lockdown guy, he’s better than a lot of people think and he’s made plays for the team. Davis became a favorite of mine over the years. The guy just did his job and he rarely let his teammates down. Hopefully we see something similar from McGee this Saturday.

Ameer Speed CB

If Webb doesn’t play, then a lot of people will be looking for Speed to step up. Speed has the sort of length and talent that Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker want from the CB’s. He’s just not quite put it all together yet and so Saturday is important.

I thought he’d be a lock to start on the outside for the second unit, but with Webb down, he might slide into the first. Either way, Speed is someone that I hope has a big game. UGA has weapons all over the field and their defense needs guys like him to take step forwards to slow them down. This is a big opportunity for Speed to take a jump up the crowded CB depth chart. Lets hope he takes it.
