Davin Bellamy, OLB:

How good was he in Athens?

Bellamy was a senior captain in his final year at Georgia. During his time in Athens, he accounted for 13 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. He made several big plays for which he will always be remembered by the Georgia faithful, including his strip sack of Brandon Wimbush in Notre Dame that gave UGA the win.

Towards the end of last year, he increasingly saw playing time taken away and given to the more explosive D’Andre Walker. But Bellamy was a hard worker and a strong leader who helped change the culture in Athens. He leaves Athens with a strong legacy, having been a key founder of the ‘Wolfpack’.

Could he be better in the pros?

Bellamy’s issues at Georgia were not a mental or work-related. He pushed hard to keep getting better during his time in Athens, but he does have some physical limitations. He has great length but lacks the bulk and power needed to thrive at the next level. I’m not entirely sure that is his fault because the guy is a hard worker.

That being said, he does have the potential to become a role player in the pros. He has some pass rush ability and showed a knack for making big plays when needed. The key for him will be landing in a spot that is committed to developing him. If he gets good coaching, I think he can have an impact in the NFL.

Projected grade and landing spots:

Bellamy projects as a day 3 prospect for me. It’s possible that he goes undrafted, but pass rushers are hard to find in this draft. I think that someone decides to take a chance on his upside and see what they can do.

I know that Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia worked him and the other LB’s out a lot at UGA’s pro day. Either the Lions or the Patriots could be a good fit for Bellamy. They use players for specific roles and understand how to get the best out of guys. I could certainly see either team taking a flyer on him in the 6th or 7th round.
