Georgia Football will lose an offensive lineman this month as Pat Allen decides to transfer.

It’s an unfortunate consequence of the business. With Kirby Smart bringing in so many talented players into the fold, there is going to be attrition. We know that with a 2018 class of 26 players, Georgia Football is going to have to see some guys go. Last night, offensive lineman Pat Allen announced his decision to leave Athens. Mark Weizer of the Athens Banner-Herald shared the following statement from Allen:

"“After careful consideration and careful talks with my family and my coaches, it’s with pain in my heart that I inform you all and DawgNation that I will be transferring and opening my recruitment from the University of Georgia,”"

Allen was a 4-star prospect when he arrived in Athens under then-coach Mark Richt. Having redshirted his freshman season, he played 2 games in Kirby Smart’s first year. He initially held the starting left guard spot for a while during fall camp last year. But he eventually had that spot taken by Kendall Baker after just one game.

Since then, Allen has seen a whole host of talented players arrive in Athens. He found himself way down the depth chart this spring with the likes of Trey Hill and Netori Johnson getting more playing time than him. That group will get even deeper in the summer when Jamaree Salyer arrives.

Because of that redshirt season, Allen has two more seasons of availability left. This is probably a good time for him to find a better depth chart where he can compete and see the field. The guy has talent and I have no doubt that he could start at a lot of programs. He’s just an unfortunate casualty of what has become a loaded offensive line group. DotD wishes him all the best and hopes he finds a good fit to enroll at this fall.
