Georgia football: Top 5 players from the 2018 G-Day Game
G-Day, The 2018 Georgia football spring game was this past Saturday. The black team, led by Justin Fields and Jonathan Ledbetter, defeated the red team, led by Jake Fromm and Monty Rice, 21-13.
In case you missed this past Saturday, Georgia football held its annual spring football scrimmage known as the G-Day Game. The black team defeated the red team 21-13 thanks to a dominant defense. Red team quarterback Jake Fromm had trouble finding receivers admits a pass rush led by Jonathan Ledbetter and D’Andre Walker, and the pass coverage of Deandre Baker.
The one-hand touch rule on quarterbacks didn’t do Fromm any favors either. Nor did it give anything to opposing quarterback Justin Fields. Members of both defenses had big games, but the offenses had some guys shine as well. So here are who I believe were the five best players from the G-Day Game.
5. Justin Fields – Quarterback
Not to hype up Fields or to suggest he’ll start this season, but he clearly had a better day Saturday than Fromm. Fields completed 19 of his 38 passes for 200 yards with one touchdown. he also had 12 carries for three yards. But of course, those rushing stats are misleading because of the one-hand touch rule.
He had a few positive gains and some that were almost great runs, if not for that rule of course. He didn’t exactly live up to the hype. He only completed half of his passes, 200 yards isn’t great for 38 attempts and he threw an interception. But he did what the back team needed him to do to win. His combination of running and passing produced one more touchdown than the red team.
