Trenton Thompson (Junior) DT

Alistair: 4th round, pick 122, Chiefs

I hate putting Thompson this low. There is so much that I like about him on the field and I would love to see him go earlier and sneak into day 2 but right now I can’t see that happening. The big issue for him is injuries. His level of play has been up and down, but the real questions teams are asking themselves is can this guy play 16 games. The guy has 1st round talent, but there are real questions about his health that will scare some teams off. I think he slides down in the 4th round where a team like the Chiefs that needs some young defensive players takes a shot.

Davis: 3rd Round, pick 75, Raiders

Jon Gruden is the new sheriff in Oakland and he’s focusing on building a solid defense. After missing out on some defensive line help in free agency, Oakland drafts Thompson to provide depth in the middle of its defensive line.

Kyle: 4th Round, pick 110, Raiders

The Oakland Raiders could use some help on the interior defensive line, but they have other positions to fill first. By the fourth round, they should be ready to draft a defensive tackle. Thompson, with his history of injuries, will likely slip to at least the fourth round. I can see the Raiders taking a shot on him if they’re satisfied with their first three picks.

Mike: 3rd round, pick 94, Vikings.

This guy has 1st round talent but many teams will be looking at his health. If he stays 100%, a team that is always trying to improve their defense like Minnesota may take a chance on big Trent. The Vikings were 1 game away from the Super Bowl last season and a player like Thompson may make an immediate impact that could get them over the hump.
