Georgia Football saw a 5th player drafted when Lorenzo Carter was picked at the top of the third round by the New York Giants.
Lorenzo Carter’s wait finally came to an end. Call me a UGA homer all you like, but I was confused by a lot of the second round picks we saw. There were a lot of players who were not as good as Carter who ended up getting chosen.
None of that mattered at the end of course, because Carter did have his name called. He was selected by the New York Giants with the 66th pick in the draft. He will go and be a linebacker for a team that really needs one in New York.
Carter is the kind of player who could make a big impact for his new team. The last time the Giants had an impact player at the position was back when Antonio Pierce was in town. That was nearly a decade ago.
The Giants has a pretty damn successful first 2 days of the draft. On day one they got the best running back in years in Saquon Barkley. Today they got one of the nastiest offensive guards in Will Hernandez, Carter and a big-time defensive tackle in B.J. Hill. All of those players have elite physical traits and were elite in college. That’s a ridiculous haul for any team in just 3 rounds.

Carter will bring athleticism and leadership to the Giants defense. That’s a unit that was one of the best in the country just 2 years ago. Expect Lorenzo to make an impact early and help lead the Giants back to the playoffs in his rookie season.
