Georgia Football had 6 players drafted this past weekend in the 2018 NFL draft and several more who have signed as free agents.

With 6 Georgia Football players drafted, the 2018 NFL draft was pretty good for the Bulldogs. Several of their other players have also landed onto training camp squads now in free agency. So let’s take a look at where all the former Dawgs are going to be taking their talents to next. We’ll start of course with the highest taken player, Roquan Smith.

Roquan Smith: Round 1 Chicago Bears

So are we all Bears fans now? Smith will join another former Bulldog Leonard Floyd in Chicago. That’s two explosive playmakers on the defensive side who could help rebuild the monsters of the Midway. It’s an exciting pick for Bears fans because Smith will bring something they haven’t had since Brian Urlacher. An elite ILB who can lead the defense for the next decade.

Vic Fangio and his 3-4 scheme will be staying in Chicago under new head coach Matt Nagy. The scheme they run is very similar to what Kirby Smart runs at UGA and will be a great fit for Smith and the way he plays the game. They can play him on the inside and let him run loose just as the Bulldogs did this past season.

Smith’s ability to cover so much ground should allow the Bears to send their pass rushers more than before. He can blitz himself and should be an impact player on day 1. I firmly expect him to be in the conversation for the defensive rookie of the year award next season. Smith should help the Bears once again to be an elite defensive team.
