Georgia Football: 2018 NFL Draft Dawg roundup
Nick Chubb: Round 2 Cleveland and Browns
Speaking of fan favorites, Cleveland just got a couple. They shocked a lot of people when they took Baker Mayfield first overall. The Heisman Trophy winner is less than 6ft1 and a lot of scouts thought that he was just too much of a risk to draft that high. But the Browns didn’t care and it’s hard to argue with his production.
But Mayfield won’t be the only new offensive weapon coming to Cleveland. He’ll be joined by his Rose Bowl opponent Nick Chubb. Chubb was taken in the second round by the Browns in a move that surprised as well. Having recently signed Carlos Hyde to a free agency deal, fee expected the Browns to go after a running back that high in the draft. But with Chubb on the board, they decided to strike and brought him in.
A few years ago, it might be the kiss of death for Chubb’s career. The Browns have been a train wreck for most of the last 20 years. However, with Mayfield in town alongside a solid offensive line and some young talent on defense, the Browns look a lot better right now.
Chubb will bring an instant running game to Cleveland. He’s the type of tough runner the fans will love and his hard-working attitude will be a perfect fit in a young dressing room that needs to get better. Mayfield and Chubb were both hugely successful in college and bring a different attitude to a franchise that has failed for so long. It’s a great spot for Chubb now and I expect to see him thrive over the next few years.
