Lorenzo Carter: Round 3 New York Giants

I think Carter may well have fallen into a perfect spot. There was talk earlier in the process that he could well end up being a first-round pick because of his offseason. His physical testing impressed everybody and the Giants themselves looked to trade up and get him in the second.

They ended up seeing that trade break down, but things worked out in the end. Carter fell to them in the top of the 3rd round and they took him. Carter will join another former Dawg Alec Ogletree in the Giants new LB corp. Both of them should fit in great and be a huge part of new defensive coordinator James Bettcher’s defense.

Bettcher will bring the aggressive 3-4 defensive set that he used in Arizona to New York. Both Ogletree and Carter should fit really well into that unit. Ogletree will be the general in the middle of the field and can cover plenty of ground. Carter is a great fit at OLB because it’s similar to what he did at Georgia.

What’s interesting is that there was a lot of talk after the pick that the Giants see some pass rushing ability in Carter. Lorenzo certainly flashed that at times, but he didn’t get to focus on it in college. If the Giants can tap into the raw ability he has and improve that part of his game, Carter could be one of the steals of the draft.
