Javon Wims: Round 7 Chicago Bears

There was a long gap between Carter and Wims in the draft. Dawg fans were made to wait a lot longer than they probably thought to see a player have his name called on day 3. When it did finally happen, it was Wims that heard it and once again, it was the Bears who picked a Dawg.

Wims should be a fine addition to his new team. The Bears have spent much of the offseason building around their new QB Mitchell Trubisky. The number 2 overall pick in last years draft had flashes of promise in his rookie season. But the Bears have worked hard to surround him with talent over the past few months.

They brought in Alan Robinson from the Jags to be their number 1 receiver and signed Taylor Gabriel to play in the slot. Wims should come in and will have a chance to earn a role on this team. Kevin White has so far been a huge bust and there is no guarantee that ill change. Wims will bring size and reliability to the position group. Their second round pick Anthony Miller is a 5ft10 explosive player who is very different to Wims.

It’s often hard for 7th round picks to stay on the roster, but I think Wims will. To me, he fell a lot more than he should have done. Wims was incredibly important to Jake Fromm and Georgia last year. This pick is a great value for the Bears and I think he’ll be a great fit in Chicago. He could become a real redzone weapon in a corp that lacks height and toughness.
