Davin Bellamy: Undrafted Houston Texans

Another player that I was surprised to see go undrafted was Davin Bellamy. He is almost the complete opposite of Thompson from a college career perspective. While he lacks the elite physical traits that Thompson has, Bellamy built a legacy for himself at UGA. He was a great leader as well as a solid contributor on one of the nations best defenses. for several years.

Nobody would confuse Bellamy and fellow wolfpack member Lorenzo Carter. The later is a better athlete and has a better chance of being an elite NFL player. But to see Bellamy go undrafted is just bizarre. When you look at some of the players teams took, you can’t help but think that he’s been a bit disrespected.

I fully expect Bellamy to use that chip on his shoulder to help him going forward. His decision to go to the Houston Texans is a good one. They run a Patriots style defense and Bill O’Brien likes blue collar workers like Davin.

I’ve always felt that while he might not be an every down player, there is a place for Bellamy in the league. In certain sets, he has real value and he’s also the kind of personality any team should want. I like the fit for Bellamy and I expect him to find a way to make a roster in 2018. Maybe it will be on the practice squad as he develop, but I don’t think this will be the last we hear from him.
